What is Magnitudle?
Magnitudle is an estimation game that scores you logarithmically rather than by exact digits. Each Daily question asks for a quantity with a unit, you submit one number, and the game grades how close you came to the correct order of magnitude. A guess of 120,000 against a real 142,000 counts as 0.1 orders of magnitude under and scores 98 out of 100. The site also offers a weekly Survival mode and visual estimation challenges.
How to play Magnitudle
- Read the unit line beneath the question. It defines what you are counting, such as products or dollars.
- Type the significant digits, then tap a multiplier button like x1K or x1M. The input box confirms your answer in words.
- Submit your guess. You get one attempt with no opportunity to revise.
Why the logarithmic scale matters
Most people struggle to distinguish a million from a billion in practical contexts. Magnitudle turns that difficulty into a forgiving scoring system. Being roughly right protects your score, while being off by multiple orders of magnitude tanks it. A guess of one million against a real 600,000 still scores 92 because the magnitude error is small. This design keeps the Daily approachable while making Survival mode genuinely tense, since your life bar drains by exactly your magnitude error.
Reading the feedback
The result screen shows your score out of 100, your guess beside the correct answer with units, and a magnitude error statement such as "0.1 orders of magnitude under." This framing teaches scale rather than punishing imprecision. Being out by a factor of two barely affects your score, while being out by a factor of a thousand destroys it. Each Daily includes a sourced fact below the verdict.

Daily
One question scored out of 100. Feeds your streak, statistics, and leaderboards.
Survival
Opens each Wednesday for a single weekly attempt. You start with 10 life and 15 seconds per question. Every answer subtracts your magnitude error from your life, so an error of 0.3 costs 0.3 life and an error of 8.6 ends the run immediately.
Size It Up
Five rounds of visual estimation. Drag a silhouette larger or smaller until it matches a reference object, then lock in. One example placed Luxembourg beside Singapore and scored 33.57 km against a real 81.72 km for 30 out of 100.

Tips for better estimates
Use the multiplier buttons instead of typing zeros. Miscounting a zero is a full order of magnitude and the costliest mistake you can make. The buttons eliminate that risk.
Stop trying to be exact. Refining 140,000 into 142,000 barely moves your score because the scale is logarithmic. Spend that effort confirming you chose thousands instead of millions.
In Size It Up, zoom out before dragging. The board provides a zoom-out control. Starting cramped prevents you from scaling the silhouette as large as the answer requires.
Does the archive affect my streak?
No. Archive attempts are ring-fenced from streaks, statistics, and leaderboards so you can practice old questions without risking a live run.
