What is MapTap?
MapTap is a daily geography game that replaces a flat map with a spinning 3D globe. You tap on the globe to place markers as close as possible to five named locations. Each placement reveals your distance in kilometers and awards a round score, which accumulates in an arcade-style counter at the top of the screen.
How to play MapTap
- Spin the globe to rotate the correct region toward you.
- Zoom in for precision; the tutorial requires this step.
- Tap your chosen spot. The game immediately shows the target location, the distance error, and the round score.
- Repeat for all five locations in the daily puzzle. Your total score updates in the top banner after each tap.
Why the globe format matters
Playing on a sphere changes how you orient yourself. You lose the fixed edges and grid lines of a flat map, so you must rebuild your sense of direction with each spin. High-latitude regions appear in their true proportions, not stretched as they are in Mercator projections. The kilometer feedback is exact and unforgiving, which makes zooming before tapping essential.
Reading the feedback
After each tap, the screen displays the target name, your distance error in kilometers, and the round score, all overlaid on the globe. The top banner shows your cumulative score, the day number, and the date. The tutorial includes a practice round that does not count toward your score.
