What is Mathler?
Mathler is a daily web math puzzle where you find a hidden equation that equals a given target number. Use digits 0-9 and the operators +, -, *, / to build expressions across the puzzle's fixed squares. You have six guesses, and each guess returns colored-tile feedback to guide your next attempt.
How to play Mathler
Check the target number at the top, then enter and submit a valid equation using digits 0–9 and the operators +, -, *, and /. The equation must evaluate to the target.
After each guess, use the tile colors: green means the character is in the correct position, yellow means it appears elsewhere in the solution, and gray means it is not part of the equation. Apply standard order of operations, so multiplication and division come before addition and subtraction. You have up to six guesses to find the hidden equation.
Difficulty modes and practice
Mathler offers Easy (one operator per puzzle), Normal (+, -, *, /), Hard, and Extreme difficulty levels. The site also includes a Practice mode for unlimited attempts and an Archive to replay past daily puzzles. Each mode applies the same feedback rules but adjusts complexity or available operators.
Tips for solving faster
Open with a guess that mixes different digits and operators. More variety in your first attempt reveals more information from the colored feedback.
Remember that * and / calculate before + and -, which changes how expressions evaluate. If you guess 2+3*4, the result is 14, not 20.
Treat gray tiles as eliminations. When a digit or operator turns gray, remove it from future guesses to narrow the search space.
Reading commutative solutions
The game accepts commutative equations like 20+7+3 and 3+7+20 as equivalent. If you submit a valid commutative form, Mathler will automatically rearrange it to match the exact solution and mark your guess as correct.
