What is Noggle?
Noggle is a deduction grid puzzle that uses two working areas and a separate answer table. At the bottom, a list of clues with an X beside each to mark when used. In the middle, a crossing grid where you place marks: double tap for a match, single tap for a non-match, tap again to clear. At the top, an ANSWER HERE table where each row and column must contain exactly one check. Yellow cells must be filled to complete the puzzle. You start with five stars, and the hint button costs one star per use.
How to play Noggle
- Read the clues beneath the board. After applying each one, cross out its X.
- Double-tap a matching square and single-tap a non-matching one. Tap it again to undo.
- Enter confirmed answers in the ANSWER HERE table, with no more than one check in each row or column.
- Complete the yellow cells, then select “Ready to Score?” to view your result. Select Start Over if you want to try again.
Why the two-tier structure matters
Noggle separates hypothesis from conclusion. The crossing grid holds your working logic while the ANSWER HERE table collects only assertions you are ready to commit. This split prevents guessing and forces you to deduce each match before placing it. Because nothing is corrected during play, you rely on your own reasoning rather than trial and feedback. The constraint that each row and column accepts a single check drives most of the puzzle forward, often more than re-reading clues.
Reading the feedback
Noggle does not validate marks as you place them. The only check occurs when you press "Ready to Score?" after filling all yellow cells. During play, the star counter and the hint button's displayed cost are your only indicators. A built-in tutorial walks through one complete puzzle on first visit, advancing with a Next button at each step.
Tips for solving efficiently
Cross out clues as you use them to avoid re-reading the same information. The X beside each clue is there for this reason.
When the grid stalls, revisit the row and column rule in the ANSWER HERE table. This constraint often reveals the next move without returning to the clue list.
The hint button displays its one-star cost before you press it. Decide whether the current impasse is worth spending a star, since you begin each puzzle with only five.

Does the game warn when a mark is wrong?
No. Validation happens only at the end when you press "Ready to Score?". Nothing is checked along the way.
How do you undo a mark placed by mistake?
Tap the cell again to clear it. The welcome screen states this explicitly. A Start Over button is also available on the board.
