What is PricedIn?
PricedIn is a daily inflation estimation game built around one product and six prices spanning five decades. You choose an anchor year, receive its price for free, and use that reference point to estimate what the same item cost in the other five years. The challenge lies in judging how inflation moved between decades rather than memorizing historical data.
How to play PricedIn
Choose one of the six year buttons as your anchor. Its price appears immediately. Enter an estimate for another year and press Enter. You get three attempts for each year.
Use the arrows to adjust your next guess. Your earlier attempts appear below each field, helping you narrow the range. Complete all five years, or select “I give up, show me the answers” to reveal the remaining prices.
At the end, you’ll see your accuracy percentage. The standings also show how your weekly average compares with other players.
The anchor year determines how you approach the entire puzzle. Picking 2026 gives you a price you know from current shopping but requires working backward through fifty years of inflation. Choosing a middle year like 1996 or 2006 lets you interpolate in both directions but depends on less certain memory. Consider which decade gives you the most leverage rather than which feels most familiar.
Use your first guess on a year next to your anchor. A confirmed adjacent year creates a slope you can extend across the grid, which is more useful than isolated attempts at distant decades.
The 10% accuracy band is strict
Each year must land within 10% of the actual price to register as correct. On cheaper decades that window can be a dollar wide or less, which removes the option to bisect from a wild opening guess. Three attempts per year means you need to open close to where you believe the answer is rather than testing extreme ranges first.
The feedback shows only direction, not proximity. After two wrong guesses you see something like "Prev: $100.50 ↓ • $150.25 ↓" and must judge the bracket yourself without a closeness meter.
Modes and weekly standings
Today's product is the only live puzzle, but the rolling week replay panel lets you return to the previous seven days. Your daily accuracy scores feed a weekly average that earns a title and percentile ranking. The system tracks progress locally in your browser, so returning to the same device preserves your history.
