What is Septonum?
Septonum is a mental arithmetic game that delivers seven timed calculations per day. Each round gives you six numbers and a target between 101 and 999. You combine the numbers using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to reach the target or get as close as possible. The two-minute timer does not start until you press Start, making the decision to begin part of the experience. You build one operation at a time, and the OPERATIONS panel tracks your work as you go.
How to play Septonum
Press Start to begin the two-minute countdown. Read the target number and the six numbers you were dealt, then select two numbers and one of the four operators to create an operation.
The Operations panel records each step. Use Undo to remove the last operation or Reset to clear the round. Submit when you reach the target or have your best approximation before time runs out.
The header shows your progress through all seven rounds.
The numbers round remains challenging even for skilled players because the target is deliberately difficult to reach with clean arithmetic, and the two-minute limit penalizes overthinking. Septonum serves seven rounds in a single session rather than one. The EXACT counter in the stats panel tracks perfect hits separately from completed rounds, giving perfectionists a metric to chase across days rather than within a single puzzle.
Reading the feedback
Distance matters more than pass or fail. The goal is to get as close as possible, and the stats panel counts EXACT hits separately from DAYS and STREAK. During a round, the countdown runs from 2:00 with a progress bar, and the OPERATIONS list fills in under the operator buttons as you work.
Modes
The daily seven: The header shows the puzzle date and your position in the sequence, reading 1 of 7 on arrival. The browser stores seven empty round slots stamped with the date.
With friends: A two-person button sits in the header beside a dumbbell icon. The site description mentions playing solo or with friends.
Tips for better results
Do not press Start until you are looking at the screen. The timer begins immediately and counts per calculation, not per session.
A round is never lost because the brief asks for the nearest result. When time is nearly gone, submit the closest answer you have built instead of hunting for the exact target.
Undo steps back one operation while Reset clears the entire round. Count how many steps back the mistake is before using the bigger button.

Do I have to hit the target exactly?
No. The goal is to get as close as possible. The stats panel keeps a separate EXACT counter, making perfect hits worth pursuing but not required.
Can I play in French?
Yes. The menu includes a link to switch the game language to French.
