What is SHITle?

SHITle is a free daily four-letter English word ladder. Change one letter per valid word to reach SHIT in as few moves as possible. Daily resets at midnight UTC; Practice offers extra rounds. Desktop and mobile, no account or download. Contains profanity and toilet humor; not a children's game. AI-assisted original implementation and editorial content.

How to play SHITle

  1. Read the starting word shown above the board.
  2. Type a new 4-letter word that differs from the previous accepted word in exactly one position, or use the on-screen keyboard and press Enter.
  3. Continue from each newly accepted word, building a chain of valid moves.
  4. Reach SHIT and compare your total accepted moves against par, the shortest route found in the game’s dictionary.
  5. Use Undo to remove the last accepted move or Reset to restart the same puzzle. Rejected guesses do not count as moves.

Find the shorter route

The destination is always visible. Work both forward from the start and backward from SHIT. Replacing a single letter—often a vowel or the first letter—can open useful connections. Matching letters are highlighted only for comparison; they are not locked and may still be changed later if a better path requires it. Temporary detours that remove a matching letter are allowed. More than one shortest route can exist. If a branch leads nowhere, Undo and try another direction.

Why a move may be rejected

An entry is rejected when it is not exactly four letters, changes more than one position, rearranges letters, or is absent from the game’s reviewed list of 2127 English words. The same word as the previous step changes nothing and is rejected. The dictionary includes everyday slang, plurals, and inflections but excludes proper names and initialisms. A rejection reflects only this game’s list.

Daily or practice mode

A fresh daily starting word arrives at midnight UTC. Everyone on the same UTC date and game version receives the same start. Daily starts cycle through 200 verified familiar words. Practice mode supplies a new start at any time. Progress for daily and practice paths is stored separately in the browser. Only the first daily finish of a given UTC date counts toward statistics.

Count the moves and share without spoilers

Reaching SHIT displays your accepted move count and the par score. Any finished route is a win, even if longer than par. Par is calculated by breadth-first search of the game’s licensed dictionary. After finishing, the share option produces a result that shows only the move count and a tile pattern; the actual route words and the daily starting word remain hidden. Nothing is posted automatically.
