What is Shrooms?
Shrooms is a daily browser logic puzzle where you plant exactly two mushrooms in every row, column, and colored region of a forest grid. Mushrooms cannot touch each other, not even diagonally; illegal placements turn red. Mark squares with grass to rule them out. A new puzzle appears each day at midnight Eastern.
How to play Shrooms
- Tap any cell to cycle through states: empty → grass → mushroom → empty.
- Place exactly two mushrooms in every row, every column, and every colored region.
- Keep mushrooms from touching, including diagonal contact. Violating mushrooms turn red.
- Use grass marks to note squares where mushrooms cannot go.
- Press Check to see how many mushrooms are wrong or Hint to reveal one logical step.
Reading the feedback
A red mushroom breaks a rule: too many in its row, column, or region, or it touches another mushroom diagonally. A safe mushroom displays a blue cap. Check reports the number of wrong mushrooms but not their locations. Solving awards a base score of 100 points plus bonuses for difficulty, speed, streaks, and avoiding hints.
Modes and difficulty
Shrooms offers a single daily puzzle playable in the browser without an account. Boards vary by size (8×8, 10×10, 12×12) and difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard). Higher difficulty increases scoring bonuses.
Tips for solving
- When you place a mushroom, mark all eight surrounding squares with grass immediately. The no-touch rule clears them.
- Start where the grid has tight spaces or narrow strips. Constrained areas often force early placements.
- Use counting arguments. If a row and a region share limited squares, eliminations in one force placements in the other.
- Remember that any 2×2 block can hold at most one mushroom. Use block spacing to deduce where mushrooms must go.
