What is Sudorkle?

Sudorkle turns sudoku on its head. You begin with an empty grid and submit complete rows, each containing the digits 1 through 9 exactly once. The game gives color feedback for every digit. Use those clues to work out the solution. A new grid is available each day.

How to play Sudorkle

  1. Use the number pad to build a complete row with each digit from 1 to 9 exactly once.
  2. Press Enter to submit it. The timer starts when you submit your first row.
  3. Check the color feedback for each digit.
  4. Compare the feedback from several rows to deduce where the digits belong and complete the grid.

Reading the color feedback

Three colors provide information, with one important nuance. Green means the digit occupies the correct cell. Yellow means the digit was in the correct row or the correct column of its 3×3 block, not the entire grid. Gray means neither condition applies. The distinction between block-level and grid-level location is what separates a useful clue from a misleading one.

The interface also shows a move counter and two time values. The game tracks pauses explicitly, storing pause and resume events in the browser along with cell annotations.

Tips for efficient deduction

Reread the yellow rule carefully. Yellow refers to the row or column within the 3×3 block, not across the whole grid. Misinterpreting this scope can derail an entire solution path.

The timer does not start until you confirm the first row. Planning your opening guess costs no time.

Every guess is a permutation of 1 through 9, so each row is a complete test. The information lies in placement, not in which digits you chose.

Why the inversion matters

Standard sudoku gives you digits and asks you to find the rest. Sudorkle gives you nothing and requires you to earn the clues through strategic guessing. The grid must be constructed twice: once to reveal it, once to solve it. That double requirement changes the rhythm and the mental model of the puzzle.
