What is Tradle?
Tradle is a daily geography game where you identify a country by reading a treemap of its exports. Each rectangle represents a product group, sized by its share of the country's total exports. Larger blocks display their percentage, and the total export value appears above the chart. You type the country name based on that chart alone.
How to play Tradle
- Read the treemap. Block size shows export share, and labels name the product group with its percentage.
- Check the total export value above the chart to understand the scale of the economy.
- Type a country name into the box and press Guess.
Why Tradle teaches economic structure
Tradle is a rare daily game that builds structural knowledge. A week of play shifts your mental model from country shapes to export profiles: economies dominated by a single resource, those with dozens of manufactured goods in a fine mosaic, or those where one crop claims a quarter of the board. The round requires no account and consists of one chart and one text box.
Tips for reading the treemap
Look at the colors before reading any label. The treemap groups products into color families, so one large block of a single color immediately signals whether you are looking at a mineral exporter, an electronics assembler, or a farm economy.
The percentages appear inside larger blocks, letting you rank a country's top three exports without hovering over anything.
The total above the chart matters as much as the shapes. The same export mix at a very different total points to a very different country.
