What is Wheredle?
Wheredle drops you into a Google Street View panorama somewhere in the United States and asks which state you are in. You select from a dropdown of the fifty states rather than typing, so the game happens in the detective work: reading license plates, checking road signs, identifying trees, and zooming down the street for more clues. The page describes itself as Wordle-like with a Street View twist, and locations now come from player submissions rather than a curated list.
How to play Wheredle
- Pan, zoom, and use the compass to examine the Street View panorama for visual clues.
- Open the “Guess:” dropdown and choose a state from the alphabetical list, from Alabama through Wyoming.
- Select Submit. A tile grid between the panorama and the guess bar will show your feedback.
A dropdown of fifty states turns out to be more demanding than a text box or map pin. You cannot half-remember a name or drop a marker on a vague region. You must justify a specific state before you can even enter it, which pushes you into genuine detective work: highway shield shapes, plate designs, tree species, storefront brands. Because locations come from players who want to share where they live, the panoramas carry a personal quality rather than pure editorial curation.
Reading the feedback
The game borrows Wordle's tile-based feedback system. A small grid sits between the panorama and the guess bar, showing your progress against the fixed answer set of fifty states. No partial spelling or map coordinates are involved.
Tips for a more complete search
Treat the dropdown as a checklist. It holds the fifty states only, with no District of Columbia and no territories, so anything outside that list cannot be the answer.
Do not settle for the first frame. The embed keeps its Street View compass and zoom, so a road sign two hundred meters down the street is fair game before you commit. Use the controls to gather as much evidence as possible before making your selection.

Can the answer be Washington DC or a territory?
No. The guess dropdown lists the fifty states from Alabama to Wyoming and nothing else, so the answer always sits inside that list.
