What is WorldGuessr?
WorldGuessr is a free geography guessing game that drops you into Google Street View anywhere in the world. You examine clues like language, road signs, and landscape, then place a pin on a map to guess your location. Each round scores up to 5,000 points based on accuracy. Built by an independent developer, it offers unlimited rounds in all modes with no account required for single-player and no subscription fees. The site runs on ads, provides 93 official country maps plus over 70,000 community-created maps, and includes competitive features like ranked 1v1 duels with ELO ratings, 2v2 team matches, and a daily challenge. The full source code is available on GitHub under the PolyForm Noncommercial license.

Game modes
WorldGuessr has several game modes.
Singleplayer gives you unlimited rounds on any map, with optional time limits, and does not require an account.
Ranked Duels match you against another player at the same locations. The closer guess takes health from the opponent. Wins raise your ELO rating and move you through the leagues.
2v2 Team Duels use the same format with two-player teams.
Unranked Match lets you compete against other players without affecting the ranked ladder.
Party lets you create a private game and share it with friends through a link.
Daily Challenge gives everyone the same three locations each day. You have 60 seconds per round and one attempt, followed by a score distribution and a top-100 leaderboard.
Country Guesser and Continent Guesser offer two additional guessing formats.
Understanding the scoring
Distance determines your score. After submitting, the result shows your pin, the real location, the gap between them, and a score of up to 5,000 points for that round. In ranked duels, both players see the same location and only the closer guess wins the round and takes health from the opponent. Wins raise your ELO rating and move you up the leagues. The Daily Challenge scores once: three locations at 60 seconds each produce one final score for the leaderboard.
Why choose WorldGuessr over alternatives
GeoGuessr players who have reached its free limit can use WorldGuessr without paying. Every mode is available without a subscription, and rounds are not capped. The site includes 93 official country maps, more than 70,000 player-made maps, an ELO rating system, and a Hall of Fame. The Daily Challenge is the only mode limited to three locations; the other modes are open-ended.
Strategy and tips
Start by identifying the hemisphere. Vegetation and the quality of the light can narrow the possibilities before you read any road signs.
Large errors cost heavily, so a confident country-level guess is usually better than splitting your guess between two continents.
Singleplayer has timed and untimed modes. Turn off the timer while learning to read scenes, then turn it back on to practise for duels.
Use the 93 official country maps for focused practice. Staying in one country helps you learn the details that matter in ranked rounds.
In ranked duels, both players see the same locations, and only the closer guess wins. Beating your opponent matters more than the absolute score.
The website and the Android and iOS apps use the same account. Rounds played on any device contribute to the same profile and rating.
Common questions
