What is BingeWatcher?
BingeWatcher is a daily film guessing game built on masked Wikipedia articles. Every word of a film's page is hidden behind golden bars on a black background, styled as a cinema ticket marked "ADMIT ONE." Each day at midnight New York time, a new film from the top of the US box office since 1948 appears. Your goal is to reveal the hidden title by typing words into the input field and watching the article unmask.
How to play BingeWatcher
Enter a word or number in the ticket field at the top of the masked article. The Shots panel on the left records each guess with its rank and digit.
In the right-hand column, cast members appear as gender icons before their names are revealed. The Director and Writers/Inspirations sections divide the article into zones. At the top, golden bars represent the title you are trying to identify.
If automatic scrolling helps, turn on Auto-Scroll above the article.
Reading the masked article
The cinema ticket format provides structure before you guess a single word. Gender icons in the cast list show how many performers appear and in what order, even when their names remain hidden. The Director and Writers/Inspirations blocks segment the article into readable zones. The title bars at the top remain visible throughout, giving you a constant target rather than an open search.
Understanding feedback
BingeWatcher uses accounting instead of colored boxes. Each word you submit appears in the Shots panel with its rank and a digit. The footer credits Wikipedia and "Word Vectors for 157 Languages" by E. Grave and coauthors. The dashboard displays how many players found today's reel, yesterday's reel in full with its player count, and a local save tracking days played, team members found, and clue categories used.
Tips for efficient guessing
The pool is explicitly stated: top US box office films since 1948. Vocabulary from major releases, studios, and franchises yields better results than obscure terms. Start with common film industry words rather than random dictionary entries.
Watch the gender icons in the cast section from the beginning. They reveal cast size and order before any name appears, offering structural clues about the film.
Yesterday's reel remains visible with its player count, showing the kinds of films that appear in this game. Use it to calibrate your expectations about difficulty and era.
Modes and country selection
A flag button in the banner allows country selection, and the local save stores games and dates by country. Only one reel appears per day, with a "Next reel in" countdown in the banner and yesterday's reel displayed under the Shots panel.
