What is Spotle Movie?
Spotle Movie is a daily film-guessing puzzle. Each day presents one mystery movie. You type any title from a searchable catalog of over 3,000 films and submit up to ten guesses. Each guess reveals eight attribute tiles—genres, year, box office, score, studio, director, and cast—with color-coded feedback to guide your next attempt.
How to play Spotle Movie
- Type a movie title into the search bar and select it from the dropdown list.
- Submit your guess. Eight clue tiles flip one by one to show attribute information.
- Read the tile colors: green means exact match, gold means close, gray means no match.
- Use numeric values and directional arrows on year, box office, and score tiles to narrow your next guess.
- Continue refining guesses based on revealed attributes. You have ten attempts to identify the film.
Reading the feedback
After each guess, the tiles show color-coded results. Green means the attribute matches exactly. Gold means it is close, often because it partially overlaps in a field with multiple values, such as genre or cast. Gray means there is no match. Numeric tiles show an up or down arrow when the mystery film’s value is higher or lower than your guess, helping you narrow the year, box office, or score.
Game modes
Daily mode presents one new mystery film each day and resets at midnight EST. Rewatch mode lets you replay recent puzzles from the official page. In Create mode, you can design a custom puzzle through the site menu.
Choose exact titles from the dropdown. The catalog contains more than 3,000 films, so partial matches may not count. Green tiles confirm attributes, while gold tiles point to overlapping categories. Numeric arrows show whether to guess older or newer films, higher or lower grossing films, or films with better or worse ratings. Use each guess to narrow the range and conserve your ten attempts.
