What is Typecasted?
Typecasted is a daily movie-trivia puzzle where you connect films and actors by alternating film → actor → film links. Two daily modes reset at midnight with new seed films and challenges. After playing, you can compare your result on a leaderboard and review solution details.
How to play Typecasted
- Choose a mode: Endless or Make the Cut from today's challenges.
- In Endless, start from the seed film and alternate linking film → actor → film with no repeats. You have 20 seconds per guess; the clock resets after each correct link. When time expires, your chain length is your score.
- In Make the Cut, connect a start film to a destination film by chaining films through shared cast members. Complete the path in 5 moves or fewer to "Make the Cut." There is no timer.
- After finishing either mode, view your leaderboard ranking or review the shortest possible path and a breakdown of how other players solved the puzzle.
Two distinct puzzle styles
Endless is a timed endurance challenge. Build the longest chain you can from the seed film before the 20-second timer runs out. Each correct link resets the clock, so quick accurate guesses extend your run. Your final chain length becomes your score on the daily leaderboard.
Make the Cut is an untimed pathfinding puzzle. You are given two films and must connect them in 5 moves or fewer by choosing films that share cast members. After you finish, the site shows the shortest possible path and a breakdown of solutions submitted that day. An archive of previous Make the Cut puzzles is available on the site.
Tips for stronger links
Alternate film → actor → film. No actor or film can appear twice in a single chain. If you repeat a name, the link will not count.
In Endless, correct links reset the 20-second clock. Speed matters, but accuracy matters more. A wrong guess costs time without adding to your chain.
In Make the Cut, you can take time to plan because there is no timer. Work backward from the destination film or forward from the start, looking for actors who bridge the two. Five moves is the limit for a successful "Cut," but fewer moves earn a better result.
Account and daily reset
No account is required to play either mode. Creating an account lets you track your streak, history, and leaderboard position across days. Both daily puzzles reset at midnight with new seed films and challenges.
