What is Moviedle?
Moviedle is a daily film puzzle that starts with a cryptic riddle—a few poetic lines that hint at the hidden movie. You submit film titles as guesses and receive feedback through a four-column table: Year, World, Genre, and Locations. The game is numbered by day and hosted on thingdle.app/moviedle.
How to play Moviedle
- Read the riddle at the top of the page.
- Enter any film title into the search field and submit your guess.
- Check the four-column feedback: Year, World, Genre, and Locations.
- Continue guessing. You have six attempts, and two additional hints unlock after your second and fourth guesses.
- Solve the puzzle to add the film to your movieDEX and collect badges.
Reading the feedback
Each guess returns color-coded verdicts across four columns. Green signals a match, orange a partial match, and gray no match. The Year column shows whether the target decade is earlier or later than your guess. The World column distinguishes real-world films from animated or other types. Genre and Locations indicate whether there is overlap between your guess and the target film. The table begins with five question marks as a blank starting row.
Modes
Moviedle offers two modes. The daily puzzle presents one numbered riddle per day without a timer. The Community riddles section, labeled "new," lets you play user-submitted puzzles and submit your own through a dedicated link.
Tips for solving Moviedle
Any title works as a probe. Even an unrelated guess gives you information about decade, world type, genre, and locations.
Orange feedback is valuable. On Genre or Locations, orange signals partial overlap—a lead to follow rather than discard.
Badges reward quick solutions or games solved without hints. If you want to collect them, try another guess before opening a hint.

What happens if my film isn't recognized?
The game indicates the title is not yet in its database and displays a "Suggest it" button to propose adding it.
How many hints are available?
The site's documentation is inconsistent. The presentation text mentions a starting hint plus two more after the second and fourth attempts, totaling three. The board counter displays "0/2 Hints."
Do I need to create an account?
No. The site advertises a free game with no registration required, though a Login button appears in the header.
